#EIR - A thank you still goes a long way on Twitter

Today I thought I'd talk a little bit about the best ways to thank people on Twitter and why showing appreciation is so important.

Hi Jenise,

I agree, thanking people is important. I personally am not crazy about dm's, because I feel most of it is SPAM, so I tend to ignore that stream.

What do you think about the way that Twitter handles RTs? I don't always see who RT my tweets and I hate to think that they fall though the cracks somehow.

Thank you for this very timely reminder. I know that sometimes I get so "busy" that I fail to express thanks - and the reason that I am "busy" is because so many people have been helping me!

Daphne,

I know what you mean about DMs, and spam. But still, I think DMs can be very useful if used as a way to have a private conversation with someone on Twitter, rather than to broadcast a spammy message.

I'm not a fan of Twitter's "retweet" button precisely because of the problem you describe. Retweets done using that function don't show up on your mentions, so you often don't know when someone has retweeted you and you miss thanking them.

To check for these, you need to go to your Twitter account home page, click on "Retweets" and then click on the "Your Tweets Retweeted" tab.

I try to do this periodically but often retweets do fall through the cracks this way. I sure hope Twitter gets on the ball and fixes this problem one day soon.

Thanks for the comment Daphne!!

Tim,

Thanks so much for the comment. Again, we need to give each other as well as ourselves a break on all this. It's not about tit for tat, but whenever possible it's about appreciating and helping the people who help us. :)
